The Château de Montrichard is a ruined 11th-century fortress, partially dismantled by King Henri IV in 1589 and damaged during WWII, but its iconic keep and walls remain, now housing museums, serving as a historical monument, and undergoing restoration for visitor access, offering views over the Cher Valley.

Construction: Built in the 11th century by Foulques Nerra, Count of Anjou, as a strategic stronghold.
Destruction & Dismantling:
Partially damaged by King Philip Augustus in 1188 during conflicts.
Henri IV ordered the keep reduced in height in 1589 after it fell to the Catholic League.
Cannonaded by French troops in 1940 during World War II, destroying a smaller tower.
