The main Catholic church in Hirschhorn, Germany—the Karmeliterklosterkirche Mariä Verkündigung (Carmelite Monastery Church of the Annunciation)—is over 600 years old, with its construction dating back to 1406.
Here are the key details regarding the age of the church:
Foundation: The monastery and church were built by the Ritter (Knights) von Hirschhorn and officially handed over to the Carmelite order in 1406.
Style: It is a late Gothic structure that served as the burial church for the noble Hirschhorn family.
History: The church was abandoned after the monastery was secularized in 1803 and fell into disrepair, but it was restored and reconsecrated in 1910/1912.
Older Site: The Ersheimer Kapelle (St. Nazarius and Celsus), located on the other side of the Neckar in Hirschhorn, is even older, with parts dating back to around 1355.
