The historic mikveh (Jewish ritual bath) in Karbach, Germany, was built in 1826.
Key facts about the Karbach mikveh:
Original Structure: The 1826 “Frauenbad” (women’s bath) was located next to the synagogue.
Destruction and Rediscovery: The bath was demolished during World War II, and a milk collection point was built on its foundations after 1945. During renovations of the marketplace in 2006, the original stone steps and basin were rediscovered and uncovered.
Current State: The site is now a memorial, where the original, excavated foundations of the mikveh are displayed and protected, alongside a light sculpture that explains the history of the site.
Note: The former synagogue, which was also associated with the Jewish community that lived in Karbach since the 17th century, is now used as the town hall.
