Dagobert’s Tower (also known as the central keep or “Dagobertsturm”) of Meersburg Castle is traditionally believed to have been established around 630 AD by the Merovingian king Dagobert I. While the site has 7th-century origins, the visible structure of the tower is generally believed to date from the 12th or 13th century.

Legendary Origins: Tradition suggests the original tower was built in the 7th century, though none of that original structure survives.
Actual Structure: The current stone tower is typically considered to be from the 12th century.
