Wissembourg was photographed by James Derheim in May of 2015 and again on subsequent visits. The old German name for Wissembourg in Alsace is Weißenburg (or Weissenburg), meaning “white castle” or “white fortress”. Throughout its history, particularly during periods of German control, it was known by this name, which is the German equivalent of the modern French name.
